Exploring the Future of Vehicle-to-Grid Energy Management

The rapid growth of electric vehicle charging infrastructure is creating new opportunities for the electricity system.

Beyond simply charging vehicles, EV charging networks have the potential to become a source of energy flexibility. Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) technology takes this further by enabling compatible electric vehicles to exchange energy with the grid.

CCE is exploring the potential of V2G services and how they can contribute to a more flexible and responsive electricity system. We are also bringing together like-minded companies and industry participants to explore opportunities across the emerging V2G ecosystem.

Beyond charging

V2G brings together two traditionally separate areas: mobility and energy.

An EV can serve its primary purpose as a vehicle while, where technically and commercially appropriate, also becoming part of a broader flexible energy network.

CCE is exploring how connected vehicles, charging infrastructure, energy management and electricity market opportunities can work together to create practical V2G services.

Building towards a more flexible energy system

As EV adoption grows, fleets of vehicles could potentially be coordinated as distributed energy resources, supporting a more responsive electricity system while helping organisations make better use of their energy assets.

CCE sees V2G as an emerging opportunity at the intersection of mobility and energy, and will continue working with like-minded organisations to explore how these technologies can contribute to the future energy system.
